Ever since my son was born, we have been reading books a few times per week. I was really good at reading to him while on maternity leave - we would read the same stack of eight books every day. His face lights up when these familiar books are read over and over to him again. We are still able to squeeze in reading during the majority of the week - it is one of his favorite things to do!
Some of my favorite books come from the new series written by Todd and Jackie Courtney, called Inspirational Nursery Rhymes. These are the first ever self-help books for babies and toddlers. These books truly are inspirational! They teach positive values, personal inspiration, manners, gratitude, and personal responsibility.
By reading these books early on in your child's life, these values are downloaded at a subconscious level. My hopes and dreams for my son include having him grow up to be a responsible, compassionate, empathetic young man. I read these books to my son in order to help shape who he may become one day. Statistics show that 95% of what is programmed into your child's subconscious mind happens by age six. A baby's brain is like a sponge, and I am all about getting all the good stuff in while he is young and impressionable!
The science behind these books is called epigenetics. This is the study of changes in organisms caused by modification of gene expression rather than the genetic code itself. How cool is that?! The main character in this series is named Max. Max goes through life learning to give thanks, how to take on personal responsibility, and learning about how to maintain a positive self image. I recommend these books to all of my friends and family with little ones! Pick up a set for the babies and toddlers in your life here!
