A dinner out with my husband is something that is few and far between these days. When we go out to eat, we often take our kids. However, last weekend, it was date night! We hired a sitter (errrr, called my mom to come over!) and headed out to try a new restaurant for us - The Craftsman by Two Brothers, which is located in Downtown Naperville, IL.

I have lived in Chicago for most of my life, but I had not been to Downtown Naperville in several years. When we arrived, I was shocked at how much it reminded me of a mini downtown Chicago. The street that The Craftsman was on was recently decorated for the holidays - it was gorgeous!

The Craftsman by Two Brothers is a multi-level establishment. On the ground level, there is The Market Cafe, which offers Two Brothers roasted coffee, pastries, and sandwiches. The third level has the Two Brothers cocktail bar, and the second level is The Modern Tavern, which is where we had dinner.

From the second we walked in, the atmosphere was engaging. The hosts welcomed us and brought us upstairs to The Modern Tavern. I ordered the Moscow Muddler, and my husband had the Two Brothers Winter Ale. The Moscow Muddler was made with vodka, blueberries, rosemary, lime, and ginger beer - it was perfectly sweet and tart at the same time.

The drinks were delicious and the food was phenomenal. For appetizers, we had the Seared Crab Cake and the Burrata Rustica. These two appetizers are a must. The Craftsman is a farm-to-table restaurant. They list the local farms that they parter with on their menu. You can seriously taste the freshness. The Burrata Rustica was described by my husband as the “most delicious appetizer he has ever had”. And I agree!

For dinner, I had the Scallops, which were served over butternut squash linguini with bacon and browned butter. Did somebody say bacon?! And browned butter?! This dish was a flavor explosion in all the right ways. The scallops were perfectly cooked, and the linguini was light and flavorful.

My husband had the Butcher’s Steak. I had a bite of his dinner, which was amazing. Our meals were cooked just as requested, and were plated beautifully.

Now, I am a huge advocate for dessert. My husband is not a big dessert eater, but tonight, this was a special occasion! We had a baby sitter! I ordered the bread pudding, and he ordered the peanut butter mousse. Let’s just say, he only got two bites in before I took over his dessert and ate both mine and his. I am still having dreams about these sweet treats!

Our experience at The Craftsman by Two Brothers was unforgettable. We also had an amazing waitress. She was expecting a baby girl - which is a position that I was in just one year ago. It was fun to chat with her while we dined at The Craftsman. We loved everything about this restaurant.
