How To Start A Sweet Pea Garden

Recently, my mom asked if we could help her to grow some viney plants that she could use to cover a few areas in her backyard. After picking up a few supplies, we got right to work. This is a super fun activity that is so very easy to do with your kids.

We started with sweet pea seeds from my aunt’s garden. Instruct your kiddo to put one or two seeds into each pellet.
Pour in about 1/2 inch of warm water, and let the peat soil pellets absorb the water. After a few minutes of absorption, drain off the excess water.
Your pellets will have turned dark and color and will have grown to be 1-1 1/2 inches in height. We made sure our sweet pea seeds were snuggly in the peat pellet by pressing any exposed seeds down into the peat pot.
Place your tray of peat pots in sunny spot in your house and watch them grow. Your kids will love to see the seedlings sprout into tiny plants.
Once your seeds are ready to be planted outside, the great thing about these peat pots is that they can be placed directly in the ground. How easy is that?!
