Ahhhhhhh sleep. Adults LOVE sleep. And we miss it for ourselves once the babies come along. We also love when our kids sleep! Sleeping through the night is a huge milestone. Defining a nap schedule is also huge - and it is something I have yet to do! My son used to sleep a lot in the newborn phase. But that came to an abrupt ending several months ago.
At daycare, much to my surprise, he naps! Sometimes twice per day, and for hours at a time (at least that's what she tells me....I've never witnessed said nap). But when I am home with him on the weekends - no naps. This makes things like finding time to fold a pile of laundry impossible. He crawls now, and he basically needs constant supervision when he is not in his pack and play. Most of the time I give him free roam to explore and crawl all over, so the supervision is constant. I've tried to put him down for a nap a few times, and all he does is play in his crib. I've only witnessed him fall asleep one time for a "nap" (see above photo, I had to document the event), and it was completely by accident. It was on a bed where I set him down for a second, and before I knew it, he was out. This nap was not any benefit for me though since I had to stand next to the bed the entire time until he woke up (which was bout 13 minutes later).
I have many friends who have babies who nap. On a schedule. Part of me doesn't believe them. I just finished watching Orange is the New Black and the word "nap" for me is akin to the word "furlough" from that series. It ain't ever going to happen for me - but one can dream!
