Sleep. We all want more of it. Recently, my husband and I got a major bed upgrade. We spend 1/3 of our lives in bed - okay......maybe 1/5, if we are lucky! But let's talk about making that 1/5 more like a 1/3. Here are 5 Steps to Getting The Best Sleep Possible As a New Parent.
1) On Sunday night, declare two nights during the upcoming week that you will "go to bed early".
Planning in advance will be very helpful, and will make you more successful in getting more sleep - at least a few nights per week. I often find myself going to bed very late, and then waking up at 5:45 a.m. and thinking "TONIGHT I'm going to bed early!" But I never do....And I repeat this every night! However, I started to say to myself that I'm "going to bed early on Tuesday night and Thursday night". And I do just that. The small successes help me to achieve more sleep!
2) Have a warm, caffeine-free beverage at night.
The is a calming technique that I use. Sometimes it is as simple as a warm glass of water (I have NEVER been a fan of cold water). Chamomile tea is another favorite!
3) Do a chore in the morning before work (or before the kids get up) that you typically save for at night.
For example, I usually fold laundry at night. The mountain stares at me until I finally get to it at 11:30 p.m. or so. However, if I do it first thing in the morning, then it is a weight off of my shoulder. I can usually get to bed earlier when I check things off my list earlier in the day.
4) Update your planner/journal.
I love keeping a food journal and a meal planner. Updating it in the evening provides me closure for the day. Reviewing my meal planner keeps my mind organized (well, more organized than it would be without my planner!) I like going into the following day with a firm plan on what I will be preparing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This type of routine helps me to sleep more soundly at night.
Do you LOVE what you're sleeping on? Our old queen sized bed was no longer working for us. Our son was making his way into our bed from time to time, and he loved snuggling with us in the morning on weekends when he woke up. A queen was not big enough!
First things, first, we got a new bed frame. We fell in love with the high headboard of this King-sized upholstered platform bed. It was low to the ground - just what we needed since our son loves to climb on and off our bed. Our old bed was WAY too high up.
Next up was searching for the PERFECT mattress. Did we want regular or memory foam? We had been sleeping on a regular mattress, but I really never liked it. Once we agreed on memory foam, I researched several brands. My husband and I decided that the Lull Bed was the bed for us. Here's why:
-Easy on the Environment: Listen up you guys, this is important! We are the green generation and should be trying to support brands who have an eco-friendly initiative. Lull Beds are Made In The USA! The foam used to produce Lull mattresses meet rigorous standards for minimizing off-gassing.
-Efficient packaging: Every Lull bed ships in a box the size of a mini fridge. The compact size results in a reduced carbon footprint.
-Made without chemicals such as formaldehyde, ozone depleters, flame retardants (the materials used by Lull are naturally fire-resistant), and heavy metals. Meets standards of less than 0.5 parts per million VOC
-10 YEAR WARRANTY!
-Easy set up - get ready for our unboxing!
-FREE SHIPPING! Delivered to your front door in 2-7 business days!
-They offer a 100 night trial. If you do not love your Lull, you can return it for a full refund. This of course, will not happen. I haven't slept this good in years!
-Three layers of premium memory foam, designed to contour to your body.
-Lull mattresses absorb movement, so you don't feel other members of your family move during the night. Keeps you sleeping longer!
We were so excited when our Lull mattress arrived!
