How To Design a Non-White Kitchen in a White Kitchen World

Modern Kitchen Design and Decor

When I scroll on Pinterest and go deep into the rabbit hole on Kitchen Design, I am often pinning all things white. I LOVE the look. I really really do. But when it comes to our kitchen design, I just don't know if I want to jump on the white kitchen trend. It has been trendy for several years now, and I am not sure if I want to commit to it when I know something new is around the corner. But what could that new be?? After doing a lot of Pinterest research, this is the inspiration that I have come up with for how to design a non-white kitchen in a white kitchen world.

Here is a typical, gorgeous, white kitchen that I have pinned:

Drool. But is there another color scheme out there that I should look into? I am thinking YES! I have recently come across some other really cool designs and colors that I am considering for our new kitchen.

One of my favorite designs that I have come across is this beauty below from @amberinteriors. You should follow her account on Instagram, it's full of gorgeous design inspo!

@amberinteriors created the below stunning design

I love the off-white cream cabinet color with the contrast of the dark gray/blue island. I'm a big fan of quartz - I love how the white quartz countertops work with the cabinetry colors. And the leather island chairs? Drool!

This next design, which I found on apartmenttherapy.com, is a great way to combine a bit of the white theme with other colors.

You have the white subway tile on the backsplash, and I love the gray cabinets with the dark wood countertops. I am not sure how practical this type of countertop is, but it sure is gorgeous! We will have an island in our new kitchen. I can see this color scheme with darker gray island cabinetry.

In this next kitchen design, which I found on homebunch.com, I cannot get enough of how great these hardwood floors look with this kitchen color palette.

Wide planks all the way. In the new house, I would love to have these super wide planks. But my builder husband has informed me that you can really only get this width in engineered flooring. After pleading with me for months about the superiority of hardwood over engineered, we have decided to go with wide plank hardwood floors. They will be about 5 inches wide, not quite the 6-8 inches that you see above.

Last, but not least, is this kitchen featured on At Home by Joanna Gains

I love these two very different cabinetry colors, and how they look with the white quartz countertops. The light fixtures over the island are some of the best that I have seen. And don't even get me started on the backsplash behind the stove. It's ta-die-for!!!

There you have it, four gorgeous kitchen designs that do not conform to the ever-so-popular white on white theme that has flooded Pinterest in recent years. I found this book over at Amazon, which has helped me along the way as I pin pin pin. It is jam-packed with decor ideas. I have only a few more months to decide on final kitchen decor. I cannot wait to see how it all comes together!
