Today was like Christmas morning for me. The new furniture was delivered! I have been waffling over furniture for the new house since May. I know I know, you’re probably wondering why I haven’t had anything else better to do than scroll Arhaus, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, Anthropologie, and West Elm. Some people watch TV to relax, some read books - I scroll loveseats and end tables.
First step to shopping for furniture like you mean it is to look at every single piece of furniture on the market (limiting your search to within the country you reside in - you wouldn’t want to give yourself too many options or anything…). This may take you months, but then you will know you haven’t over looked any couch or chair out there.
Step two involves dragging you AMAZING HUSBAND and wonderful children (who live for jumping on display couches) to every store in order recline on every chair, inspect every coffee table top, and get a feel for every fabric.
Step three involves using the in between moments to question your furniture purchase. Will the style change too quickly? How long until my toddler throws up on the couch or takes a sharpie to it? These are legit questions that will most likely happen during the lifetime of your furniture (or several times!).
Step four involves trying to find and save money to buy the furniture. I spent hours going through our old stuff, determining what no longer “Sparked Joy”. I then sold it, and put it towards the furniture fund. We had three large garage sales in order to help subsided this purchase.
Step five involves committing to placing an order. We ended up getting the bulk of our furniture from Arhaus. Honestly, Arhaus was not on our original radar, but we got their catalog New Years day and saw The Baumann, which is on MEGA CLEARANCE right now!!! That catalog ended up causing us to make the bulk of our furniture purchase from their store. Nice advertising, Arhaus!
Step six is to await delivery day. Which was today! Then, watch your toddler jump all over the new couch and threaten to toss the pillows and cushions all over the dog hair covered floor just like he had with the old couch. How dare he!
That’s it! Our dog is evil-eyeing me as we speak because I am giving her that “no dogs on the furniture” look. She never takes me seriously though!
