Building A New House - The Home Stretch

I think I'm being a little optimist calling this the "home stretch", but I am starting to see light at the end of the tunnel of our new home endeavor. We started this project over two years ago, beginning with an architect search. A lot has had to happen along the way in order to get our project off the ground, but it has been fun and exciting seeing it all come together over the last several months.

We broke ground about six months ago. I'm going to have to admit, I really did think we'd be moved into the house this month. But here we are and I am two weeks away from having a baby......and let's just say we are more than two weeks away from project completion!

Nine Months Pregnant!

But that is okay! It is - I swear! I have seen how hard the hubby has been working on the house and I know that this is just something that is going to take time. Mike is doing the entire outside masonry, and all the interior tile. I was over at the house the other day with our toughest inspector yet. Our tot said, "all looks great, dada!"

We have been changing a few things about the house as we go along. Mike has been the go-to person for all our (my) change orders. He is by far the most cost-effective way to get things done!

Once the drywall went up, I decided that our shower was too closed off:

Shower BEFORE

In one evening, Mike was able to bust this shower open just as it was meant to be.

Shower AFTER - fixed!

The weather and lack of day-light have been the most limiting factors for outside work. After work, there is not any daylight left to work with, so all outside work is needed to be done on the weekends. Thankfully we've had many warm days, above 40F! But there have been some really cold ones as well. Now.....if only the snow could hold off!

Dada's Little Helper!

I've been taking care of the super important inside details such as selecting tile and working out the kitchen design. All while growing a baby at the same time! I'm wiped! Next up on my to-do list has been selecting paint colors.

Selecting Tile

I really didn't know where to start when it came to selecting paint colors. I started by picking up a ton of samples and laying them out on the floor in the daylight.

Paint Sample Overload!

It is SO hard to envision what these tiny squares will look like on the walls. I cut the samples up and started to lay them together to try to form a cohesive color pallet. Here's what I have come up with so far:

First Floor Paint Pallet

First Floor

Second Floor Paint

Painting is also something that Mike and I committed to doing on our own in order to save money. In reality, the paint is supposed to be MY JOB! I just didn't anticipate being nine months pregnant by the time paint was needed. I just don't know how or when the painting is going to get done! Thankfully, my mom and sisters have offered to help. Painting party! I am going to owe them big time!

So that is where things stand after several months of construction. I cannot wait to move the fam into the house. Although, I think T is really loving his time living with Grandma and Grandpa. He is going to be so confused when we no longer live with them! Today also marks 14 months since moving in with the P's. Wow! What a year (and then some) that it has been!
