I have been curious about Epilation for a very long time. I’ve researched many different epilators over the past several months. Recently, I purchased the Braun Epilator Silk Epil 9 Flex, and I think I’m in love. This is after a few decades of relationships with razors (my least preferred shaving tool), and my at home GiGi wax warmer.
My relationship with hair removal beyond a standard razor began when I was 17 years old and when I was working for a woman with her own Merle Norman franchise. She also operated a full spa in additional to the Merle Norman storefront. We had GiGi waxers and I was always game to grow about my leg hair to allow the aestheticians to practice waxing on me.
After having a full leg wax from a coworker, I bought my own GiGi wax system for home. Waxing became my preferred toll for at-home facial hair removal. I waxed my own bikini for many years throughout college, mastering a Brazilian wax on myself at one point. I can’t believe I used to do that!
I waxed my own legs several time over the years. Those first few strips are awesome, but it does get very time consuming. I would often lose interest and would get bored with the process because doing your own leg waxing takes a long time.
I loathe shaving. I don’t really even like taking a shower, so staying in the shower for any longer than I have to is not my cup of tea. I’m now in my 30’s and I shave my legs about once per week due to time. The stubble is always back within one day, and I’m often left with dark stubbly legs. It’s the worst look and feel.
My interested swung back to Epilation. My thought was - it sounds too good to be true. If epilation was so great, why weren’t all my friends doing it? The most convincing person who convinced me to buy a Braun and try it out for myself was my sister in law. She had been epilating for two months, and was in love.
Without hesitation, I purchased the Braun Epilator Silk. It is one of the more pricy epilators, but my sister in law spoke first hand that it was the best model that she has tried and did it a great job removing hair from the root.
Delivery was fast. I charged up the Braun Silk, and went to work on my legs that had not been shaved in eight days. My leg hair was not super long, but it was long enough. I now like epilation better than waxing because the epilator can get hairs as short as 0.5 mm, or the size of a grain of sand. With waxing, the pros recommend 1/4 of an inch.
The hair from epilation falls onto the floor. I collected all my de-rooted hairs and made a hair pile. This picture shows how effective epilation can be. The hairs below are all from my leg - look closely and you can see the root-y ends.
