I made this Lucky Charms Green Ombre Rice Crispy Treat cake the other day, and it was delicious! This fun dessert idea is perfect for any family for the upcoming lucky holiday.
You will need the following to make this green ombre cake:
1 Springform 9 inch non-stick pan (which you can scoop up here on Amazon!)
2 Boxes Lucky Charms Cereal
1 Stick Butter
2 Bags Jumbo Marshmallows
Green Food Coloring
1 Bag White Chocolate Chips (for drizzle)
Stove pot for melting
Spatula
This "rice crispy treat" cake is composed of four layers of green to give the ombre effect. Here are the ingredients for each layer:
Layer 1 (bottom of cake)
3.5 cups Lucky Charms cereal
8 Jumbo Marshmallows
1 Tablespoon Butter
3 Drops Green Food Coloring
Layer 2
3.5 cups Lucky Charms cereal
8 Jumbo Marshmallows
1 Tablespoon Butter
7 Drops Green Food Coloring
Layer 3
3.5 cups Lucky Charms cereal
8 Jumbo Marshmallows
1 Tablespoon Butter
15 Drops Green Food Coloring
Layer 4 (top of cake)
3.5 cups Lucky Charms cereal
8 Jumbo Marshmallows
1 Tablespoon Butter
40 Drops Green Food Coloring
Instructions:
1) Make layer one first.
2) Melt the butter and marshmallows in a pot on the stove (low heat setting), stirring continuously with your spatula.
3) When the marshmallows are 80% melted, add in the food coloring.
4) Mix in your cereal, and then pour the mixture into a lightly greased springform 9-inch pan.
5) Spread flat with your spatula. After about 5 minutes, when the mixture is cool but pliable, flatten firmly with your spatula (pressing on your spatula with your hand in order to make a firm first layer.
6) Repeat for layer 2, 3, and then 4. You will be adding a little more food color with each additional layer.
7) Once cooled, remove your cake treat from the springform pan.
8) Melt your white chocolate chips according to the package instructions. With a cake drizzle piping tip, drizzel the chocolate on top of your cake in any design that you would like. I did a back and forth motion across the entire cake.
Make the cake your own by making a marshmallow design on the top of the cake while the chocolate is still warm (this will allow for the marshmallow to stick to the top of the cake). Your kids will love decorating the top with you. When ready to serve, cut with a warm knife that has been run under hot water (and then dried off). Enjoy, and Happy St. Patrick's Day!
