For the first 35 years of my life, I didn’t have a single tattoo—despite always wanting one. It wasn’t until recently that I finally decided to take the leap and go all in. Within just six months, I got three very large tattoos that I had dreamed about for years. I took my time planning out the designs, making sure each one was deeply personal and meaningful. I now have both sides of my ribs tattooed, as well as an intricate floral design that flows from my hip to my upper leg. This next tattoo is located on my hip and side, and it’s one of the most meaningful pieces I have. The first photo you see here was taken right after the initial outline was completed. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic and related shutdowns, I had to wait several months before I could go back and have the tattoo finished. It was tough having to pause such a personal project, but the wait made the final result even more special.
Now that it’s complete, I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. The tattoo is large and detailed, stretching across the majority of my hip and side torso area. It features a stunning arrangement of floral elements, and it has a strong yet feminine vibe that I absolutely love. One of the flowers in the design is a soft pink carnation—a tribute to Heidi, whom we tragically lost in November 2019. That flower carries a lot of emotional weight, and incorporating it into the design felt like the perfect way to honor her memory. Memorial tattoos like this one are incredibly powerful and healing. Every time I look at it, I feel a deep connection to her. It’s a bold, beautiful, and deeply personal tribute that means the world to me.

This final tattoo is definitely the wildest one of the three—and I mean that in the best possible way. I wanted something that represented the more colorful, energetic side of my personality—something bold, vibrant, and a little bit trippy. I needed some yin to balance out the yang of my other more sentimental tattoos, and this psychedelic design delivered exactly what I envisioned and more.
It’s a true statement piece: loud, proud, and full of life. The swirling patterns, dynamic shapes, and eye-catching vibrant colors give it a surreal, almost dreamlike feel. It's one of the most detailed and meaningful tattoos I’ve ever had inked—and easily one of my favorites.
This celestial forest tattoo was created by the incredibly talented Sara Phillips of SP Designs, a well-known tattoo artist who recently relocated her studio from the heart of Chicago to the surrounding suburbs. Sara's eye for detail and ability to bring fantasy elements to life through body art is unmatched, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with how this piece turned out.
The process was definitely a labor of love—completed over five separate sessions, each lasting around three to four hours. But every hour spent was worth it to bring this dreamy, enchanting tattoo vision to life.
