My sister recently graduated with her Food Science and Human Nutrition Master’s Degree. I wanted to have a custom food science cake designed for her, but there were limited food science cake ideas available on Pinterest. I ended up creating my own custom design, and worked with Hira of Scrumptious By Hira in Illinois on the pastry details.
There are a few key prominent details about Food Science and Agricultural Science that I wanted included on this graduation cake. On the cake, I wanted the following:
-A fondant lab coat
-An Erlenmeyer flask
-Water H2O Molecules
-A Moisture Sorption Isotherm
-A bacteria growth curve showing the four basic phases of bacteria growth
-An aluminum can representing canning, retort, and food processing
-Wheat stalks to symbolize grain science
-A chicken and an egg to represent poultry animal science
-A glucose molecule
This is the cake that Hira came up with. I was immediately in love!
For our food scientist graduation party, we also incorporated flower decor in various laboratory glassware. We used graduated cylinders, beakers, and erlenmeyer flasks to hold fresh flowers. These flours surrounded out food science cake.
My sister did her defense on bag-in-box wine. She focused on how the packaging acted as a barrier to prevent oxidation. In addition to having a food science cake and flower in beakers, we also created flower vases out of bag-in-box wine.
Below is what our food science dessert table decor looked like. The cake and decor were a hit at out party. The inside of the cake was as fabulous as the outside. It was house-made German Chocolate. Depending on what your graduate focused on in their food science or agricultural science program, you too can customize your cake to be perfect for them.
