It has been almost one year since we moved into our new home, and it has taken that amount of time to put the finishing decor touches on our master bedroom. We started off with only having a bed in our room. The bed was the ONLY THING for months! Then we got a plant, then a mirror. It was six months later when I settled on night stands (WHAT a game changer!)
You may be wondering why I would wait this long to put simple things such as night stands in our bedroom. I promised myself that I would not be one of those people who moved into their new house, and went out and found things to put in my house. This is how people end up with things the don’t like.
After reading The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, and Spark Joy, I decided that I did not want to bring anything into my home that did not spark my own joy. This was very important to me. As I get older, I have realized more and more that I’d rather be surrounded be fewer (much fewer), higher quality goods than something to fill space. We don’t have time for things in our life that do not spark joy!
Our Minimalistic Bedroom Decor
Since I spend so much time waffling over night stands, plant stands, and bed spreads, I figured I would put all of my notes here in one spot. So without further ado, here is how you can achieve a similar look to our minimalistic hygge bedroom decor.
1) Plant Stands
Plants are a wonderful thing to have in your home, especially in your bedroom. I have now kept our palm alive for nine months. To celebrate, I bought it a beautiful gold plant stand, one that sparks joy in both myself, and the palm (I can tell, because it hasn’t gone and died on me yet!) This plant stand was the start of me selecting other master bedroom decor with gold accents.
Like I mentioned before, we went MONTHS without a nightstand. That meant phone, glasses, bottles, wipes, diapers - all on the floor. I felt so lucky to have a nightstand when I finally got one. Not having a table next to your bed is no way to live!
3) Quilts and Blankets
I do NOT like duvet covers. They DO NOT bring me joy! I set out to find the perfect quilt. Our new washing machine is huge and can handle king-sized betting. I fell in love the the Anthropology bedding line as soon as I saw it. Our quilt set is the warmest we’ve ever had. It is medium-weight, and so easy to maintain and clean. It’s maintenance-free bedding!
Since we did not have nightstands for six months, we most certainly did not have table lamps. Now, we do! I found these beauties at Target. We absolutely love the way these lamps look in our room.
5) Floor Mirror
Since our planter and nightstands had gold accents, it was only natural that I went with a brass mirror. There are so many gorgeous and simple mirrors out there, but it still took a while to find The One. I waited until this West Elm mirror went on sale, and the I made the buy!
