For the past four weeks, I’ve been on an intense wellness journey. At this point of time in my life, I have a high stress executive-level career, two young children, a busy family, and I’m constantly wanting to make time for others. I recently turned 37, and I couldn’t help to feel that I looked tired and old. I also FELT tired and old.
Since this realization, I’ve been learning to really dive in and discover what true self-care means. In recent months, I have had zero energy and felt lethargic. I tackled the start of this journey by working from the inside out. I set five goals for myself to help get me to start feeling like by best self – Diet, Caffeine, Walking, Water, and BOTOX!
Let’s start with the fun one, Botox injections. I had gotten injections just one time in my life – back in 2019. I loved the results, but Covid and life running fast prevented me from going back. But now, doors are opening again, and I’m seeing more and more people. I began to get to know a new spa in town. This new Medspa is JEM Medspa.
I am extremely particular about Medspas. I only want the best, and I truly believe I’ve found the best Medspa in town. JEM Medspa has two locations – one in Elmhurst, IL and the other location is in Orland Park, IL.
When I walked into the Elmhurst location, I was blown away by the spa aesthetic. It was a gorgeous studio, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Donna, the Aesthetic Nurse Injector who I was seeing on that day for Botox injections, was a true professional in how she handled determining the right number of units to start with.
You might be asking yourself, “What is the best age to start getting Botox injections”, or “How many units of Botox is right for me?” Well, Donna and the other nurses on site will help you answer all of these question. My before photos are below. I have a very expressive face, and my forehead creases typically are always visible.
Donna marked my forehead, and then the injections started. Botox injections do not hurt me. I find them quite fascinating. With each gentle poke, sometimes you can hear a little crackle. The crackle says it’s working! Donna reminded me that It would be three days before I started to see results, and two full weeks until everything sets in. She also reminded me not to lay flat for the next four hours.
During my first visit, I received 32 units of Botox in my forehead, and a few injections to my crows feet. I was exited to see the final look of the treatment. After one day, Donna was right, the good stuff had not yet kicked in. By day three, my Botox was in full effect. I was LOVING the results (photos below after 3 days). My wellness journey was off to a great start.
As the Botox was settling in, I began to focus on my diet. I am fortunate enough to live in an area where we have an abundance of healthy fresh food options in our grocery stores, yet I often choose to eat the unhealthiest of convenience junk food. I’m talking processed foods galore, and not nearly enough fresh fruits and vegetables.
In the same week, I change my diet entirely, gave up caffeine, and committed to 12 glasses of water per day. I didn’t want my only weapon to be my fabulous Botox! For a cleanse of this type, I had to approached this life-style makeover from multiple angles.
Four weeks later, and I feel amazing. I look pretty good, too! My fine lines on my forehead that used to show prominently when my face was at rest have completely smoothed out. My skin looks brighter, and I believe that’s because you are what you eat. A change in diet plus Botox has helped me to look and feel several years younger than I am. I’m committed to keeping up this healthier side of life-style for as long as I can.
My Botox from JEM Medspa in Elmhurst will likely last a few months. I ended up getting 32 units to start, and I did not need to go back for any touch ups. I look forward to going back to visit.
