One of the things that I had to have in my kitchen was a few open shelves. I wanted to use these shelves mostly for plants, and also for a few pieces of kitchen decor. After patiently waiting many months for our kitchen to be done, it was finally time to head to the nursery and scoop up some plants and herbs.
My son was just as excited as I was to be at the nursery. This place was lovely! And amazingly, in this store full of pottery and other fragile items, we made it out in an hour and we only broke one thing. I'll call that a success!
Below are my shelves. They are made of 100-year-old reclaimed wood that was salvaged from a porch demo. It's the same wood that we used to create the wooden wall in my son's room.
Now, I am definitely a huge fan of many things "farmhouse" (helloooooo Hearth & Home at Target!), but I would not say that our home has a farmhouse theme or feel. However, there are some rustic elements here and there. I had to have this little Mud Pie Sugar Bowl. It was so sweet and complemented the middle shelf nicely.
On the top shelf, that is a Philodendron that you see! It will grow long and vine-y, and will cascade downward.
In the terrarium, I have an air plant. These plants do need a lot of love and care (contrary to what I formerly believed!) I have killed a few in my life. But not anymore! I now know I need to spray them more often than I had in the past.
I love air plants, but I also love succulents. I went with a succulent box and then I planted two succulent plants into my golden hedgehog that I got from West Elm.
My "Stay Fancy" wine glass was a gift from a friend of mine. It's a good reminder to...well...Stay Fancy!!
And now for the circular rosemary bush!!!! This herb plant smells divine! And looked so fun - I had to have it! The orchid adds a pop of color to our neutral kitchen tones.
I plan to get many more herb plants for our kitchen since they are my favorite thing to have on hand for cooking. The only herb that I prefer to buy is cilantro. We go through so much of it that I would clear out any herb plants that I would grow myself in an instant!
