Vintage Floral Tattoos for Women - Timeless Ink That Tells a Story

Side, Back & Rib Placement Ideas

This isn’t my first tattoo, but it’s definitely my largest—well, WAS my largest, until last year’s back tattoo (click here to check out my other three meaningful pieces!). Out of all the tattoos I’ve gotten, this one challenged me the most in terms of size, detail, and patience. It’s a stunning vintage floral tattoo that wraps around my side hip, and it honestly felt like it was never going to be finished.

Thanks to a long pause during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, I had to wait months between sessions, wondering if I’d ever get to see the final result. But I pushed through, kept the vision alive, and in the end, it all came together—and I’m still here to tell the story, now with one of the most beautiful pieces of art I’ve ever worn permanently on my skin.

Floral Tattoo Hip Placement Ideas for Women:

Vintage floral hip tattoo idea for women featuring a detailed Gerbera Daisy, Chamomile flower, Anemones, and a Carnation symbolizing love. Elegant large floral tattoo design with hidden placement on the hip and side body.

My tattoo is deeply personal and filled with meaning—each element was carefully chosen to represent different parts of my personality, experiences, and loved ones. Altogether, I have six different flowers and one fruit in this piece, and each holds a symbolic place in my heart.

The largest flower is a Gerbera Daisy, which is often associated with cheerfulness, joy, and positivity. While this flower has several meanings, I connect with its optimistic energy the most. I’ve always approached life with a bright outlook, even during the hardest moments, and this flower is a daily reminder to lead with light.

There are also two Anemones in the design, which symbolize change and anticipation. These resonate with me deeply, as I believe in constantly evolving. Life is a journey of growth, and every day presents an opportunity to learn, pivot, and move forward with new purpose. I’ve experienced a lot of change—some chosen, some not—and this flower honors my resilience through it all.

The Chamomile flower in the design represents calm and peace, both things I strive to find amid the chaos of daily life. Right next to it is a cluster of Forget-Me-Nots, which are my symbol of courage and remembrance. They remind me to be brave, to hold tight to the people and moments that shaped me, and to never forget where I’ve been.

There’s a pink Carnation in the tattoo as well, and this one means the most emotionally. It represents a mother’s love, and I included it for my four-legged girl, Heidi Bear, who we lost in November 2019. She was my shadow, my companion, and her love was unconditional. This flower is for her—a permanent part of this piece and my heart.

Also tucked into the design is a cluster of Lily of the Valley, my birth flower, which brings in a sense of personal identity and grounding. And finally, the unexpected but charming touch—three raspberries. Symbolically, raspberries are known to represent kindness, but truthfully, I included them because I just really love raspberries. That said, if I had thought about it more, I may have gone with cherries—I eat them by the bagful! But the raspberries stuck, and they’re a playful nod to one of my favorite things.

Now, I know that not everyone is ready to go under the needle and commit to something permanent. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the beauty and expression that tattoos offer. If you’re looking for something temporary or want to experiment with the tattoo aesthetic, I’ve linked some of my favorite tattoo-inspired clothing pieces and temporary tattoos below. These are great ways to express yourself without making it forever—unless you want to, of course.

Best temporary tattoo ideas in order to help decide if you want a permanent tattoo:

Wild Rose has the coolest tattoo leggings, shirts, and sleeves. Everytime I wear them people are doing second looks to see if they are real or not. I’ve gotten many complements. They are of great quality and can really give an edge to certain outfits.

If you get the Wild Rose Shrug, Sleeves, or tights, you can add these feather cuffs where the nylon meets the skin for a seamless look. You could also wear these faux fur cuffs, which come in a variety of colors.
